Tuesday’s results in Colorado Springs’ District 6 City Council election showed Air Force veteran and entrepreneur Roland Rainey Jr. leading a close race against School District 11 board President Parth Melpakam.

The final drop of election results released by Colorado Springs’ election staff Tuesday night showed Rainey leading the race with 42.53% of the vote and 4,784 votes cast for him. Rainey previously ran for an at-large City Council seat in 2023.

Melpakam trailed close behind with 36.9% of the vote and 4,151 votes. Financial adviser Aaron Schick had 20.5% of the vote with 2,295 votes.

The third candidate, Aaron D. Schick, trailed with 20.56% of the vote.

The winner will take over the seat from Councilman Mike O’Malley, who was elected in 2021 and declined running for a second term.

Rainey did not immediately return a request for comment Tuesday night.
