Bunco fundraiser aids community park expansion

Laughter, rolling dice, and the thrill of friendly competition filled the air as Monument residents gathered for Bunco for a Cause.

Community members gathered Feb. 22 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Monument for Bunco for a Cause, a fundraising event aimed at supporting the development of a meditation garden within Trinity Community Park.

The event, organized jointly with the Tri-Lakes Dynamic Rotary Club, sought to raise funds for the garden, which will feature Rotary Peace Poles symbolizing hope, unity, and a commitment to peace.

Bunco is a social dice game played in groups, typically with 12 or more players divided into tables of four.

The game consists of six rounds, with players taking turns rolling three dice to score points by rolling the target number for that round. Players rotate tables based on their scores, making Bunco a fast-paced and interactive event.

The evening provided excitement as attendees rolled dice, competed for prizes, and engaged in a silent auction featuring items donated by local businesses and artisans, TCP executive director Tamara Schwarz said.

The event not only provided entertainment but also fostered a sense of community, with all proceeds earmarked for the Meditation Garden project.

“It exemplified the strong partnership between the Tri-Lakes Dynamic Rotary Club and Trinity Community Park, highlighting how collaboration can create enjoyable experiences for all,” Schwarz said.

The event marks a significant milestone in the ongoing development of Trinity Community Park.

The planned meditation garden aims to provide a serene environment where individuals from all walks of life can reflect and connect, further enhancing the park’s commitment to inclusivity and community engagement.

As the project progresses, the collaboration between Trinity Lutheran Church, the Tri-Lakes Dynamic Rotary Club, and local residents continues to exemplify the community’s dedication to creating spaces that promote unity.

Trinity Community Park, located at 17750 Knollwood Drive in Monument, was created by Trinity Lutheran Church to provide a fully accessible recreational space for the Monument and Tri-Lakes region. Recognizing the need for inclusivity, the church developed the park to accommodate individuals of all abilities.

In 2023, the Gates Family Foundation awarded a $20,000 grant to support the construction of ADA-compliant facilities. Phase 1 opened in 2022, featuring a swing set, tire swing, spring toys, slides, a large climbing structure, and a 0.25-mile fitness loop, offering recreational opportunities for visitors of all ages and abilities.

In addition to attendees enjoying rounds of Bunco, attendees of the “Bunco for a Cause” fundraiser Feb. 22 at Trinity Community Church in Monument could also participate in a silent auction.
