KOAA and The Gazette kick off first in a series of City Council election forums

The Gazette and KOAA News5 are launching a series of forums Tuesday to help show voters where the candidates running for seats on the Colorado Springs City Council stand on the city’s biggest issues.

The forums will be held live at noon Tuesdays and Thursdays on Tuesday of this week. KOAA reporter Alasyn Zimmerman will host and lead the forums, which will be streamed on the KOAA and Gazette websites.

You can watch Tuesday’s forum here.

Each forum will feature questions for candidates in one of the six City Council districts, beginning with the District 1 campaign between current City Council member Dave Donelson and Lee Lehmkuhl. The questions for that forum can be watched below.

Here is the schedule and overview of the rest of the forum series.

• Thursday, Feb. 20 will cover the District 2 race between Frank Chrisinger and Tom Bailey.

• Feb. 25 will cover the District 3 race between Brandy Williams, Maryah Lauer, Richard Gillit, Greg Thornton and Christopher Metzgar.

• Feb. 27 will cover the District 4 race between Kimberly Gold, Sherrea Elliott-Sterling, Chauncy Johnson and Jeannie Orozco-Lira.

• March 4 will cover the District 5 race between Nancy Henjum, Cass Melin, Christopher Burns and Jim Miller.

• March 6 will cover the District 6 race between Aaron Schick, Roland Rainey Jr. and Parth Melpakam.

The series of candidate forums will wrap up a day before the city sends out the mail ballots for council elections March 7. The city must receive ballots by 7 p.m. on election day, April 1.
