Colorado Springs man killed in structure fire Monday night identified

The El Paso County Coroner’s Office has identified the man who died in a structure fire just east of downtown Monday night as Aaron Roper, 61.

The Colorado Springs Fire Department reported the fire on their X account – formerly known as Twitter — around 7:30 p.m. According to fire officials, Roper was unable to be revived by medical personnel and pronounced dead on scene.

A fire department spokesperson told the Gazette Thursday the investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing and it is unclear at this time if the death was directly tied to the fire. The Coroner has yet to release the official cause of death.

A GoFundMe has been established by Roper’s sister.
