Two people have been charged and arrested in the fatal hit-and-run crash that killed 55-year-old bicyclist Michael Pompa in late December of 2024.

Pompa was struck by two vehicles while riding his bike westbound on the 4500 block of Edison Avenue, just off East Platte Avenue and North Murray Boulevard, according to Colorado Springs Police Department investigators, late on the night of Dec. 29.

Through investigation and surveillance video, police determined Pompa was riding his bike westbound in the center shared lane on Edison Avenue.

Pompa was struck from behind and knocked off his bike by a dark-colored sedan vehicle traveling westbound and left in the roadway, according to the affidavit. A second vehicle came along two minutes later and struck him again. Pompa was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries and died a short time later.

Both drivers involved in the hit-and-run crash fled the scene before officers arrived at about 10:40 p.m., according to a release.

According to the affidavit, police located the vehicles and associated drivers — Corey Barnett Skinner, 40, and Chloe Makiah Geiger, 22, — and arrested both.

Officers on the scene identified a vehicle part left in the roadway near the area Pompa was struck as a fog light assembly. They ran the part number and matched it to a Chevrolet Impala.

Officers then located a black Chevy Impala in a parking lot near where the crash occurred that was missing the same fog light assembly. Detectives matched the part to the vehicle and also noticed damage on the front right corner of the bumper as well as a shattered windshield along the passenger side, which they say is consistent with hitting a bicycle.

Detectives on Jan. 8 spoke with the driver of the Impala, Skinner, who admitted to striking Pompa. He said he often drives in the center lane due to potholes on the road and he believed he hit a deer that night, which is why he did not report the incident.

Skinner was arrested Jan. 21, and charged with felony-level accident involving death. He bonded out of custody and his next court appearance is Jan. 30 at 10 a.m.

During the initial investigation officers also observed multiple broken pieces of a wheel well liner and part of a blue bumper, according to the affidavit.

Through surveillance footage, police identified the second vehicle that ran over Pompa as a blue Kia Spectra. They also observed a car matching the description parked near the intersection of the crash.

Detectives located the registered owner and went to their address where they found a car matching the make, model and plates on Jan. 1 that had damage to its front bumper.

The registered owner, Hanna Gillespie, 20, told detectives she was a passenger in her car that night and her friend Geiger was driving. She said they were scared and did not report the incident. Officers spoke to Geiger Jan. 8 to confirm she drove and struck Pompa.

Geiger was arrested Jan. 19. for felony accident involving death. She is being held on a $7,500 bond. Her next court appearance is Friday at 9:15 a.m.
