Remains of man missing since 2022 found in Pueblo West
Remains found in Pueblo West last year have been identified as those of Santino Cardella, 28, who had gone missing in 2022, according to the Colorado Springs police Tuesday morning.
Cardella was reported missing in April 2022. Then Colorado Springs police say they received information, pointing to foul play, and that Cardella was possibly buried somewhere near Pueblo. In October 2024 police received search warrants for six parcels of land in Pueblo West. There, they recovered human remains.
The El Paso County Coroner’s Office identified the remains. The office is still determining the cause and manner of his death.
Deka Jean Simmons, who was convicted last year of killing and dismembering another man, and sentenced to life in prison. During that August 2024 trial the prosecution mentioned that that Simmons was suspected by police as being connected to the disappearance of Santino.
Police declined to comment Tuesday when asked about any possible connection between Simmons and Cardella’s death. Court records show she is not currently charged in his disappearance or death.
This homicide investigation is still active, and law enforcement is asking for the public’s help. If anyone has information or witnessed this incident, call the Colorado Springs Police Department at 719-444-7000 or 719-634-7867 to remain anonymous.
