A preliminary report by the Federal Aviation Administration states that engine issues led to a small Piper plane making an emergency landing Monday near Colorado 105 between Monument and Palmer Lake on Jan.6.

KOAA reports that the Palmer Lake Fire Department said the plane, identified as a 3-seater Piper PA-12 by the FAA, landed about 4:45 p.m. in a field just south of the intersection of Colorado 105 and Red Rock Ranch Drive. The Fire Department said the plane had one passenger.

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office confirmed to The Gazette that “the plane landed safely with no injuries.”

The Sheriff’s Office reported the plane did not sustain damage in the landing, and that no prolonged road closure was needed.

The FAA will continue to investigate the emergency landing.

The serial number of the plane shows it registered to a man from Elbert County, but it was unclear if he was the pilot in the emergency landing.
