The El Paso County Division of Veterans Services is hosting a clinic next week to help veterans and their families file compensation claims with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

“As veterans ourselves, we understand the challenges clients face and are dedicated to helping veterans and their beneficiaries secure the benefits they have earned,” said Vernon Stewart, El Paso County Division of Veterans Services interim division director, in a statement.

The clinic will be held at the El Paso County Fair & Events Center in Calhan, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Jan. 15.

Veterans service officers will assist with claims on a first-come, first-served basis. The Veterans Services Office is established by Colorado law to assist with Veterans Affairs benefits. It is not part of the VA, a federal agency, but serves as a liaison.

According to the county, using the support of the Division of Veterans Services doubles the benefits received by clients on average compared to filing on their own or with another form of assistance.

Veterans should bring their medical records and discharge forms (dd214) to the clinic.
