Monday, the Colorado Springs Switchbacks announced the signing of midfielder Anthony Fontana.

Fontana most recently played for Dutch club PEC Zwolle in the Eredivisie which is the highest level of professional soccer in the Netherlands.

During his time with PEC Zwolle, Fontana made 10 appearances and played more than 350 minutes.

His connection to the Switchbacks comes from his time in the Philadelphia Union Academy where several members of the Switchbacks staff and players have roots.

“Football is an up and down sport, at every low there was always one person that always had my back, that was (Switchbacks Head Coach) James Chambers. I can’t wait to fight for him and the club,” Fontana said in a news release. “What James and (Switchbacks Sporting Director) Stephen (Hogan) have built and accomplished here is amazing. I want to be a part of it and help the project progress even more.
