Colorado Springs man arrested on suspicion of sexual assault on 3 children; police seek additional victims

Colorado Springs police completed their investigation on Terry Lee Simerly, 69, who was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault on an 8-year-old girl, a 7-year-old girl and a 7-year-old boy.

Simerly, of Colorado Springs, was arrested Dec. 26 and taken to the El Paso County jail, where he is being held on a $75,000 bond.

On Dec. 17, it was reported to police that Simerly had allegedly sexually assaulted a 7-year-old boy. When interviewed at the Safe Passage Children Advocacy Center, the boy told detectives it happened multiple times, beginning when he was 2-years-old.

One of the girls told detectives every time she was left alone with Simerly in his apartment he would sexually assault her, beginning when she was 4 years old and living with him.

The girl told detectives she hadn’t told anyone about this for three years because Simerly said he would kill her if she did.

Simerly is being charged with three counts of sexual assault on a child by one in a position of trust and three counts of sexual assault on a child by one in a position of trust with a pattern of abuse. His next appearance in court will be 8:30 a.m. Jan. 7.

Detectives with the Crimes Against Children Unit believe there could be additional victims and are asking for the public’s help in the case.

They ask anyone with information to contact Colorado Springs police at 719-444-7000 or the Pikes Peak Area Crimes Stoppers at 719-634-7867.
