An Air Force Academy cadet died at home on New Year’s Eve, Tuesday, in Idaho from cancer.

K. Emily Jean Foster, 23, from Eagle, Idaho, was a geospatial sciences major and an instructor pilot with the 94th Flying Training Squadron. She was expected to graduate in May and go on to pilot training.

Her parents, Cheryl and Jeremy Foster, said in a statement that she was a devoted Christian and lived out her faith.

“We are confident she is with Jesus and that in His presence is fullness of joy,” they said, in an official statement.

Her parents also said the cadet came home at Thanksgiving with extreme exhaustion and severe headaches. Her two aggressive and advanced brain tumors were discovered Dec. 14.

Superintendent Lt. Gen. Tony Bauernfeind also mourned Foster in the statement.

“She was a stellar cadet, leader, mentor and friend throughout her time here at the Academy and we are shaken by her loss,” he said. “We will support Emily’s family, Cadet Squadron 14, her friends and colleagues and the entire Academy team during this difficult time.”

The Academy is providing support services such as Academy chaplains and mental health professionals for cadets, faculty and staff.
