Cañon City police seek information regarding burglary of veterans organization
The Cañon City Police Department is seeking the public’s help in a burglary investigation that left the Veterans of Foreign Wars building with over $1,000 worth of damage.
Police say the burglary happened around midnight on Friday at the VFW hall at 215 N. Cottonwood Ave. in Cañon City.
The suspect allegedly stole over $3,000 in cash, all while causing damage estimated to be over $1,000.
Police were not made aware of the burglary until 1:34 p.m. when employees discovered the break-in and called it in.
When officers got to the building, they processed the scene and made efforts to find witnesses and gather surveillance footage.
Still photographs were taken from video surveillance obtained by law enforcement, but police are unable to make a clear identification of the suspect.

People with information can also submit tips through Fremont County Crime Stoppers by calling 719-276-STOP, or by submitting an online tip.
Information leading to the arrest of the suspect in this case could result in a cash award from both Cañon City police (up to $1000) and Crime Stoppers ($1,000.)
