One motorist is dead following a crash involving multiple vehicles outside Cañon City on Saturday, according to the Colorado State Patrol.

The crash took place just after 8 p.m. on U.S. 50 when a westbound driver veered off the road and hit a guardrail, the State Patrol said. The vehicle, a Toyota Prius, rolled over across the roadway and hit the median, ejecting the driver onto the eastbound lanes.

The driver was hit by three eastbound vehicles and died at the scene, Trooper Sherri Mendez said.

According to the Fremont County Coroner’s Office the driver was a male who lived in Penrose.

No other injuries were reported, and no arrests were announced. State Patrol is investigating the cause of the crash, Mendez said.
