One of the top girls volleyball programs in Colorado Springs will need a new head coach.

Molly Stowers resigned as Pine Creek’s coach Friday after nine years with the team and their best finish in more than a decade.

Following a stint coaching the freshman team, Stowers took the reins of the Eagles’ varsity program in 2017.

After a 9-17 record her first year and 11-14 mark in year two, Stowers strung together six consecutive winning seasons. This year, Stowers helped Pine Creek reach the 5A semifinals at the state tournament.

“I will miss the camaraderie, the competition, and the community that makes Pine Creek volleyball so special,” Stowers said in a release. “It has been an amazing nine years. I want to thank Pine Creek for taking a chance on me years ago and then embracing me with open arms as I then ventured on to becoming a teacher at Pine Creek and now a path towards administration. I wish Pine Creek volleyball all the best and will be cheering for the Eagles from the stands alongside you.”

Pine Creek finished 26-5 this season, their best year under Stowers and the Eagles’ best record since 2010 when they also went 26-5 and finished as 5A’s state runner-up under Ashlynn Smith.

In her eight years at the helm, Stowers compiled 126 wins alongside two league championships and, per athletic director Tim Colgate, helped 30 former players compete in collegiate volleyball.

Colgate said, “The search for a new volleyball coach has begun” as the Eagles look to retool their program, which will lose eight players to graduation.
