18-year-old victim in Mesa Ridge Parkway crash was just days away from graduating high school
Just days before she was set to graduate high school, 18-year-old Amelia Larson was killed in a car crash in Fountain Wednesday, leaving her family’s world shattered.
Local police responded to the crash in the 6900 block of Mesa Ridge Parkway, east of Fountain Mesa Road, at around 10:50 a.m. According to a news release earlier in the week, Larson was taken to an area hospital, where she died.
On the fundraising page, her family said Larson was hit by a student driver who ran a red light at an intersection. The Gazette reached out to Fountain Police Department to confirm this, but the specific details are still under investigation, said spokesperson Lisa Schneider.
The crash occurred just days before the teen was set to graduate from high school.
“In an instant, the future she had worked so hard for was taken away,” organizer Brandi Hancock wrote on GoFundMe.
Hancock also wrote about the “special light” Larson radiated, saying her laugh was infectious, combined with a one-of-a-kind spirit.
“Amelia’s presence could light up any room, no matter where she went, or who she was with,” Hancock wrote. “She had this incredible way of making everyone around her feel seen, loved, and valued.”
Family members of Larson were not immediately available for additional comment outside of what was shared on the GoFundMe.
While the family grieves, they are asking for community support as they navigate this loss to cover funeral expenses and medical bills.
The GoFundMe to support the family has already raised more than $12,000 by Friday afternoon, doubling the original $6,000 goal.
