New details have emerged in the shooting and killing of a man at a Colorado Springs auto shop where the suspect remains on on the loose.

According to an arrest affidavit obtained by The Gazette, Luis Daniel Perez, 38, is suspected of killing 26-year-old Jose Luis Miranda-Reza on Oct. 8 at a car shop in the 2600 block of Durango Drive.

According to details from the affidavit, the shooting stemmed from an argument between Perez and Miranda-Reza at the shop over a pre-existing dispute.

The affidavit details that one witness saw Perez, who worked at the shop, and Miranda-Reza have a verbal altercation that turned physical when Perez began to punch Miranda-Reza. After the fighting concluded the witness told police that Perez took out his firearm and fired one shot at Miranda-Reza as he was attempting to back away, killing him.

The witness told police that he believed Perez was the “predominant aggressor” who turned the altercation from verbal to physical, and that Perez said he “didn’t want to have to do that,” before fleeing the scene, according to the affidavit.

A separate witness, who had been with Perez during the day of the shooting, said that he had been bragging about and showing off his handgun throughout the day, and was seen with the weapon an hour before the shooting, according to the affidavit.

The affidavit states that multiple witnesses informed police that Perez and Miranda-Reza had an issue prior to the shooting that revolved around car parts and a motorcycle, though most witnesses weren’t sure of the specifics .

The shooting occurred on Oct. 8 and an arrest warrant was filed for Perez on Oct. 12, but Perez has yet to be arrested for allegedly killing Miranda-Reza, according to court records.

Court records show that Perez will face a $1 million bond upon his arrest.
