One adult, one child and one police officer were injured in an explosion at a home on the south side of Colorado Springs on Sunday night, according to an online blotter entry.

Police were in the area of the 3700 block of Strawberry Field Grove, near Cheyenne Meadows Road and Westmeadow Drive, just before 8 p.m. Sunday when they heard an explosion and screaming, and then responded to the scene. One responding officer was injured.

When Colorado Springs Fire Department crews arrived they were able to contain a fire to the kitchen area and extinguish it, according to the blotter report.

The injured child and officer were treated and released from a medical facility that night for minor smoke inhalation. According to the Fire Department, the adult resident was hospitalized with serious burn injuries.

The cause of the explosion continued to be investigated as of Monday morning.
