Three occupants and four pets were displaced by a structure fire Wednesday in the southeast part of the city, according to the Colorado Springs Fire Department.

The Fire Department said they responded just before 9:30 a.m. to the blaze in the 4300 block of Anvil Drive, near Marksheffel Road and Bradley Drive just east of the Colorado Springs Airport. When crews arrived they saw smoke coming from the attic of the home. When they went inside they were met with fire coming from the chimney of the home.

The fire, which started in the attic, was extinguished within about a half hour, officials said. No one was injured.

When the CSFD first arrived, one person was home and told on scene crews they had a fire going in the fireplace since early in the morning. The homeowner said they did not have smoke alarms and a bystander notified them of the fire.

According to the Colorado Springs Fire Department, the cause of the fire has been classified as an accidental chimney fire.
