Man killed in crash on I-25 near Monument identified

Colorado Springs police investigate alleged break-in, shots fired

The El Paso County Coroner’s Office has identified the motorist who was killed in a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 25 on Nov. 27.

James Spencer, 81, was exchanging information with another driver following a two-vehicle collision on the northbound side of the interstate, between Baptist Road and Colorado 105, when a speeding truck reportedly hit the vehicles, striking Spencer in the process, according to Colorado State Patrol. The two vehicles had been on the left shoulder when the truck hit them.

Spencer was thrown into the southbound lanes of I-25, where he was killed by traffic, officials said.

The incident is still under investigation, a State Patrol spokesman said. No charges have been filed at this time.
