Prescribed burns at Cheyenne Mountain Space Force Station scheduled

Light smoke may be visible Sunday through Friday next week as the Cheyenne Mountain Space Force Station conducts prescribed burns, according to a news release from the space force station.

The prescribed burns will take place between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m.

The purpose of the burns is to “reduce overall vegetative fuel load within native areas and improve overall forest health and resiliency,” according to the release Friday.

Officials said smoke may be visible from the burns.

The Cheyenne Mountain station is supported by Space Base Delta 1 and hosts multiple Department of Defense missions, serves as NORAD and USNORTHCOM’s Alternate Command Center, and is a training site for crew qualification.
