Holiday scenes come to The Gazette: Window displays to be unveiled
The windows of The Gazette’s downtown office will soon light up with special holiday scenes.
The street-level displays are being built by a handful of local nonprofit organizations, including: Pikes Peak Club, the Assistance League, Kiwanis Club, Council of Neighbors and Organizations (CONO), Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region, Harley’s Hope, Pikes Peak United Way, CASA of the Pikes Peak Region and the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, said Jeff Gaddis of the Pikes Peak Club.
The Pikes Peak Club has organized the holiday window displays for three years after member Mark Elliot proposed the idea.
“He said, ‘Gosh, you know what would be fun, these beautiful, big windows are just sitting empty over the Christmas holiday. Boy, would that look great if we could copy Macy’s in downtown Colorado Springs,'” Gaddis recalled.
Each organization is assigned a window, and, after submitting a proposal sketch to the property manager, works to build the display. The sets will have their own theme, to be showcased throughout the holiday season at the building on Tejon Street and Pikes Peak Avenue.
“It really is just about bringing a smile to the shoppers and the revelers,” Gaddis said.
This year, the property manager will unveil the displays at 5 p.m. Friday, just ahead of Saturday’s Festival of Lights Parade.
