Colorado Springs police are investigating a burglary that took place early Tuesday on the city’s east side, the latest in a rash of smash-and-grab thefts that have plagued the city in recent months.

Officers responded to a 2:40 a.m. call about a burglary at a business in the 6500 block of North Academy Boulevard, near Dublin Boulevard, officials said. Surveillance video showed a vehicle ramming the front of the business twice before four suspects, wearing dark clothing, entered the business and stole an undetermined amount of merchandise.

Police later learned that the vehicle used in the burglary had been stolen, but had not been reported.

The city has seen more than 50 similar burglaries in 2024, primarily at vape shops, pawn shops and gun stores, according to police.
