A Colorado Springs police dog took down a fleeing suspect on Monday, ending an alleged overnight crime spree that included a car theft, a robbery and a police chase that left two pedestrians injured, law enforcement officials said.

Elizabeth Walters, 36, faces multiple felony and misdemeanor charges, according to police.

At about 1 a.m. Monday, officers attempted to catch a female suspect after a reported robbery, but ended the chase out of concern for public safety after she hit two pedestrians with a stolen car. Witnesses told police that the woman had a gun.

At about 9 a.m., CSPD received a call about a vehicle that had crashed into a fence in the 10 block of West Brookside Street, east of South 8^th Street. The caller told authorities that the driver was setting items on fire near a residence. Arriving officers recognized the vehicle and its occupant, later identified as Walters.

When the officers approached Walters, she began running, police said. An officer fired a 40mm foam baton round at her, but she continued to run, ignoring commands to stop. A K-9 handler warned her that he would release his police dog if she kept running. When she ignored that warning, the officer released K-9 Zev. The dog, who was wearing a protective ballistic vest, caught Walters and brought her to the ground.

Walters was treated at a local hospital for minor injuries sustained in the capture before being booked into the El Paso County Jail, officials said.
