Motorists and residents along the Interstate 25 and Colorado 115 corridors, from Colorado Springs to Pueblo and to Penrose, will likely see smoke in the next few weeks as Fort Carson conducts prescribed burns, according to a Tuesday news release from the Mountain Post.
The controlled burns will take place intermittently on the installation’s training areas and the Piñon Canyon Maneuver Site, weather permitting, until the end of the year.
Planned burns are a critical component in reducing the risk of wildfires by eliminating heavy vegetation, officials said. They also help clear Fort Carson’s training areas.
Fort Carson officials will work to keep smoke impacts to a minimum, but sensitive residents are advised to take steps to protect their health.
