Live Blog: No. 4 Palmer Ridge vs. No. 5 Broomfield:

Final: Palmer Ridge was unable to take the win and falls 32-23 to Broomfield. After starting quarterback Carson Campbell was hurt, kicker Rhett Armstrong stepped into the role, setting up the Bears for a comeback attempt. They fell short. Broomfield advances to the semifinal against No. 1 Dakota Ridge.

End Q3: Palmer Ridge continues to trail, despite a 3rd quarter touchdown by Jackson Mabe. Broomfield managed to respond quickly with a touchdown of their own. It’s 25-16, Broomfield on top.

Halftime: Palmer Ridge struggling against an effective offense and defense from Broomfield. Bears also appear to be down starting quarterback Carson Campbell after he is helped off the field. The Bears put up a stiff defense just before halftime, forcing Broomfield to go for it on 4th down, resulting in a turnover on downs. But Palmer Ridge fumbles with 2 seconds left, though Broomfield cannot do anything with it as time expires. The score remains 18-10 Broomfield.

7:45: Broomfield still in control and in scoring territory. Palmer Ridge previously made a 39-yard field goal to make the score 12-10 Broomfield. There’s about five minutes left in the half.

7:30: Back and forth game as Broomfield takes a 12-7 lead after a deep pass is caught at the goal line, followed by a quick run in for the score. The two-point conversion was no good. Palmer Ridge with the ball and working its way down the field.

7:15: Palmer Ridge has the lead, 7-6. The Bears went 3 and out on their first possession, followed by a Broomfield touchdown after a 44-yard rushing score. Palmer Ridge fired right back, going 71 yards to score a 1-yard rushing touchdown and making the extra point.

Pregame, 6:30 p.m.: This is a rematch from last year, but in an earlier round of the state championship. Last year, the Palmer Ridge Bears beat the Broomfield Eagles 38-14 on their way to play in the finals. They were buoyed by a strong rushing game, ultimately finding 322 yards on the ground.

Both Palmer Ridge and Broomfield are 10-1 and on six-game winning streaks, though Palmer Ridge has won nine of its last ten by double-digits, according to a previous report by The Gazette.

There are four Colorado Springs area schools continuing their run in the state football playoffs this weekend.

No. 4 Palmer Ridge plays at home against No. 5 Broomfield on Friday night. Palmer Ridge convincingly beat Rampart 30-7 last week. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Friday.

Also in 4A, No. 7 Mesa Ridge travels to Montrose to take on the No. 2 Red Hawks. Last week Mesa Ridge won in a thriller, topping No. 10 Monarch 31-31. Mesa Ridge’s game is on Saturday at 1 p.m.

3A quarterfinal

No. 8 Discovery Canyon travels north to Loveland, facing the No. 1, and undefeated, Thompson Valley in a quarterfinal. Discovery Canyon defeated No. 9 Pueblo East 28-20 last week. Kickoff is on Saturday at 1 p.m.

2A semifinal

No. 3 The Classical Academy plays No. 2 Basalt in a semifinal. The Classical Academy beat Berthoud 20-17 last week. Their game kicks off on Saturday at 1 p.m.
