Police seeking help finding suspect in incident with El Paso County deputy
The Colorado Springs Police Department is seeking information on a suspect it says hit an El Paso County sheriff’s deputy with a stolen vehicle in September.
The CSPD said in a statement that the deputy found a stolen vehicle near Brant Road and Expedition Drive in unincorporated El Paso County around 9 a.m. on Sept. 6. The driver of the car fled, and the deputy pursued.
According to police, the deputy then tried to make contact with the vehicle again near Windmill Mesa Park. The vehicle fled again, hitting the deputy.
Police said the deputy suffered “serious bodily injury” in the incident and fired at least one round from his firearm without appearing to hit the suspect.
The vehicle, a 2015 blue Mazda CX5 with no license plates, was later found unoccupied. The suspect has not been identified. The CSPD has provided surveillance photos a person they say may be the suspect.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the CSPD at 719-444-7000. People can call the Crime Stoppers Tip Line anonymously at 719-634-STOP (7867) or 1-800-222-8477.
