Court records indicate the man being sought by law enforcement as a murder suspect in an August stabbing death also is wanted for assault charges for hurting his own mother.
Colorado Springs police have named 53-year-old Ceasar Lorenzo Wilson as a suspect in the murder of University of Colorado Colorado Springs professor Haleh Abghari, 54, on or before the morning of Aug. 7 at a residence in the 6400 block of Caddy Point in Fountain. Court records obtained by The Gazette show that Wilson also is accused of hitting his mother and locking her in her home.
Suspect named, and now sought, in connection with death of UCCS professor
According to an arrest affidavit, Wilson was arrested on July 12, after his mother called law enforcement at 10:38 p.m. The mother told El Paso County sheriff’s deputies that she and her son had been having a conversation about family when “he just went crazy,” and slapped her. She said she attempted to leave the residence but Wilson followed her outside and slapped her again, before dragging her back inside the house. There, she says he locked all the doors and put tape on the windows.
The mother reports eventually being able to sneak out the back door and make her way over a fence to a neighbor’s house near the intersection of East Ohio Avenue and Jimmy Camp Road, where she called law enforcement.
A Fountain police officer and El Paso County deputy arrived, but reported that Wilson refused to let them enter the residence, threatening to use pepper spray on them. After an hour of negotiation, Wilson exited the home and was taken into custody.
He was charged with second-degree kidnapping, third-degree assault and harassment.
Court records show Wilson bailed out of jail. He then failed to appear for an Aug. 12 court hearing in that case, and has been sought by authorities ever since.
The Colorado Springs Police Department announced Monday that Wilson is the suspect in the Aug. 7 stabbing death of Abghari. Police said Abghari had suffered at least one stab wound, though the El Paso County Coroner’s Office is still determining the official cause of death.
An arrest warrant for Wilson for second-degree murder has been issued. As of Tuesday afternoon, Wilson was still at large.
CSPD is seeking the community’s assistance in finding Wilson. He should be considered armed and dangerous. Police caution that he should not be approached.
