Colorado Springs police are investigating an auto-pedestrian crash that seriously injured two children Monday, according to a blotter entry.

The collision took place at about 5:15 p.m. near the intersection of East Fountain Boulevard and South Chelton Road, police said. When emergency personnel arrived, they found two injured pedestrians, who hospitalized with life-threatening injuries. The injured children were 11 and 16 years old, officials said.

Police said that an SUV was going east on Fountain Boulevard, attempting to get into the left turn lane at the Chelton intersection, when it hit the pedestrians, who were running mid-block across Fountain. The driver of the SUV returned to the scene, according to the blotter entry.

Police do not suspect speed or impairment to be factors in the crash. No arrests or charges were announced.
