Colorado Springs police arrest arson suspect after hours-long standoff
Michael Alexander, 55, faces a felony first-degree arson charge and is in custody.
Colorado Springs police on Saturday peacefully resolved an hours-long standoff with a suspect who allegedly tried to set fire to his home while he was still inside, according to law enforcement officials.
Michael Alexander, 55, faces a felony charge of first-degree arson and is being held at the El Paso County jail, police said.
Officers responded to a 10:12 p.m. disturbance call in the 1500 block of South Corona Avenue, according to a blotter entry. After initially refusing to answer his door, the suspect stepped outside his home and lit several items on fire, police said. The man then retreated into his house, where he tried to set another blaze without success.
Officers closed off the roadway and attempted to persuade the suspect to exit the home, but the man refused, allegedly making violent threats toward the officers.
The stalemate ended at about 1:15 a.m. when the suspect, later identified as Alexander, exited his home and was arrested. No injuries were reported.
