Cheyenne Mountain hadn’t conceded multiple goals in a game in more than a month.

That streak ended in the second round of the 4A state playoffs on Saturday.

The No. 7-seeded Red-Tailed Hawks allowed two goals in the second half and lost 2-1 to No. 10 Regis Groff at Cheyenne Mountain.

It’s the first time since Sept. 24, a 2-1 loss to Northfield, that Cheyenne Mountain allowed two goals at home.

The match between the Fusion and Red-Tailed Hawks, originally slated for Nov. 6, was postponed multiple times due to a snowstorm that rearranged several regular-season, regional and playoff contests.

Cheyenne Mountain had not played since its 1-0 victory against No. 26 Pueblo West on Halloween.

But the Red-Tailed Hawks scored about 15 minutes into the first half to build a 1-0 lead against the Fusion.

Midway through the second half, the Fusion knotted the match at 1-1 and, 12 minutes later, Regis Groff added another goal to give the Fusion a 2-1 lead.

After the Red-Tailed Hawks’ second-round loss, the last remaining area 4A team is No. 3 seed Air Academy.

The Kadets (13-1-2) host No. 11 seed Evergreen (13-4) at noon on Sunday at Air Academy. The winner earns a spot in the semifinals, which will be played Nov. 13.
