Winter weather pushes high school football playoffs to weekend; other sports also moved

The snow will blot out the Friday night lights this week.

The Colorado High School Activities Association has postponed multiple events because of weather and school closures.

Football

No area teams will play in high school football playoff games on Friday night, with weather pushing the action to Saturday and Sunday. This wasn’t a state-wide decision, as games are hosted by the higher seed and the schedule is left to the host’s discretion, but it will impact all teams from the Pikes Peak region (though some games were already scheduled for Saturday).

Several regular-season 3A games (including games at Coronado, Discovery Canyon and Sierra) remain scheduled for Friday night as of Friday morning.

Here’s the updated schedule for area football teams:

Gymnastics

The 4A gymnastics state championships, which includes Palmer Ridge in the 12-team field, will be held Saturday morning at 9 a.m. instead of Friday.

Field hockey

The field hockey championships will be held Monday, this includes Pine Creek in the consolation finals. These games were initially scheduled for this past Wednesday.

Soccer

The 5A boys’ soccer quarterfinals, which do not involve area teams, have been moved to Sunday. The 4A, 3A and 2A tournaments involve games hosted by higher seeds and decisions are left to host schools.

Here’s the updated soccer schedule for teams from the Colorado Springs region.
