Postseason action heats up as weather cools down.

Here is a preview of a few upcoming playoff matchups.

Playoff football

No. 10 Sterling (8-1) at No. 7 Woodland Park (9-0), 1 p.m. Nov. 9

The Panthers’ phenomenal season continues with a home playoff contest against Sterling, which enters the postseason on a seven-game winning streak.

Woodland Park closed the regular season with a 34-6 win against La Junta. That marked the seventh time the Panthers held an opponent to seven points or fewer this season.

Saturday’s matchup will be the first time the programs have played in football.

No. 17 Loveland (4-6) at No. 16 Doherty (5-5), 1 p.m. Nov. 9

The Spartans’ Deron Tiggett could see an increase in carries as the weather continues to deteriorate.

Tiggett finished the regular season with 148 carries for 677 yards and a team-high eight rushing touchdowns. That was part of a potent Spartans rushing attack that accounted for 1,464 yards 23  touchdowns.

No. 11 Colorado Springs Christian (5-4) at No. 6 Wiggins (4-5), 1 p.m. Nov. 9

This is the first matchup between the programs since September 2017, when the Lions rolled to a 35-12 victory.

Colorado Springs Christian also won the teams’ only other matchup and enters this game having won three of its past four road games.

Should the Lions rely on their run game, Daniel Hoggard rushed for 731 yards and 14 touchdowns on only 99 carries.

Girls regional volleyball

3A Region 3, 10 a.m. Nov. 9

Volleyball regionals begin Friday and several Pikes Peak region teams will jockey for position for next week’s state tournament.

Village, which earned the No. 3 seed, will host No. 22 Banning Lewis and No. 34 Pagosa Springs at Mitchell High School.

The Mountaineers (20-3) are chasing their first regional title and first state berth. They have not lost to a Colorado team since August, when 5A Cherry Creek defeated them in straight sets.

4A Region 6, 9 a.m. Nov. 9

Cheyenne Mountain earned the sixth seed and will host No. 31 Air Academy at 9 a.m. to start the tournament.

The region also includes No. 19 Glenwood Springs, which will face the Kadets after their match with the Red-Tailed Hawks.

The Kadets’ matchup against the Red-Tailed Hawks is an opportunity for revenge because Cheyenne Mountain defeated Air Academy 3-1 earlier this season.

Boys playoff soccer

No. 11 Evergreen at No. 3 Air Academy, Nov. 9 TBD

The Kadets scored a season-high seven goals in their 7-1 second-round win against No. 14 Greeley Central on Nov. 5 to advance to the quarterfinals.

Air Academy defeated Evergreen 2-0 in the third match of the season and has a five-game winning streak against the Cougars dating to 2017.

Evergreen, which last beat the Kadets in 2016, is 3-8 all-time against Air Academy.
