As some teams compete to remain alive in the playoffs, other teams continue to fight for position as the postseason looms.

Below are notable contests occurring this weekend with multiple state titles on the line.

Top events of the week

Football

Pine Creek at Fountain-Fort Carson, 7 p.m. Friday

The Eagles enter this matchup with a three-game winning streak and have won three in a row against the Trojans.

Pine Creek last lost to Fountain-Fort Carson in 2016 when Trojans senior place-kicker Collin Meints nailed a 25-yard field goal to give his team a 10-7 win.

But the Trojans will need to showcase offense in this contest. During their win streak, the Eagles have scored at least 28 and have average 38 points per game.

Air Academy at Rampart, 7 p.m. Thursday

The Rams look to avoid four losses in their last five games while the Kadets hope to improve to 5-5, which would give Air Academy a record of .500 or better for the second time in three seasons.

Daimion Dietsch needs just 34 passing yards to eclipse 1,000 for the season and the first time in his career.

Air Academy’s Jackson Schmadeka will do his best to limit Rampart’s junior QB and hopes to burst through the Kadets’ offensive line.

Schmadeka has four sacks this season and Emerson Ehlinger alongside teammate Caleb Kasayka have three sacks apiece.

Flag football

No. 5 Green Mountain vs. No. 1 The Classical Academy

In the first-ever flag football postseason, the Titans have dominated their opponents and have outscored the competition 71-0 in two playoff games.

Kelsey Peterson helped the Titans qualify for the semifinals with outstanding performances in the playoffs for TCA.

So far this postseason, Peterson is 40 for 71 for 386 yards with seven touchdowns and three interceptions.

State cross country

A plethora of area schools and individuals qualified for the state meet, which begins at 9 a.m. Saturday at Norris Penrose Event Center.

Air Academy girls will compete for its third consecutive title while The Classical Academy boys will battle for its fourth championship in a row. The Titan girls will go for back-to-back state titles and their fourth since 2020.

Cheyenne Mountain boys expect to compete for the 4A crown and the Coronado boys also expect to battle for the top spot.

Boys’ soccer playoffs

Following a slate of seven first-round games Wednesday, first round playoff matches continue Thursday and Friday with 4A and 2A contests.

Air Academy, which boasts the No. 3 seed in 4A, has the highest seed of any area schools and will face D’Evelyn at 6 p.m. Thursday.

Fountain Valley earned the No. 9 seed and is the lone 2A school that will host an opponent. The Danes face Grand Valley at 2 p.m. Friday. Second-round postseason matches start Saturday.

Girls’ volleyball

Cheyenne Mountain girls volleyball invite, all day Friday and Saturday at Broadmoor World Arena

More than 30 teams will clash in the tournament which features several top-10 teams from 5A, 4A and 3A.

Host Cheyenne Mountain will play in the silver bracket which includes teams such as Mead, Erie, Ralston Valley, Cherry Creek and Bayfield. The championship matches for both brackets will take place Saturday.
