Child home safe in northeast Colorado Springs after leaving in search of parents, police say
A small boy who left his house early Sunday in search of his parents has been safely returned home, Colorado Springs police said.
At about 1:55 a.m., officers were dispatched to a convenience store in the 6400 block of Issaquah Drive, near Dublin Boulevard and Marksheffel Road, after a boy, approximately 3 years old, walked into the store alone, officials said.
The boy, who was shoeless and wearing pajamas, said he walked out of his residence because his parents were not at home, and he was scared.
Too young to know his last name or his address, the boy reportedly told officers that he lived in a house with a trampoline out front. Officers checked several residences in the area but could not find the boy’s home, or his parents, police said. The officers contacted the Department of Human Services, which took custody of the boy.
The child’s parents were apparently asleep when he ventured out of the house, police said. No charges were announced.
