Water main break forces road closure on Academy Boulevard: Colorado Springs Utilities

A portion of southbound North Academy Boulevard was closed due to a water main break early Tuesday, according to Colorado Springs Utilities.

A traffic alert was posted on X just after 7 a.m., alerting residents that southbound North Academy traffic was reduced to one lane north of Meadowland Boulevard. Motorists are advised to avoid the area.

The water main repair was in its early stages on Tuesday morning as technicians ensured that an excavation won’t damage other underground infrastructure, Utilities spokesman Alex Trefry said.

“We have to start excavating in the roadway, expose that water main, and diagnose what’s going on so we’ll have a better idea of what it will take to fix it,” Trefry said.

“This is a 42-inch main, which is pretty large. Repairs normally take two to day days for something like this.”
