Enduro Cross extreme motorbiking roaring into Broadmoor World Arena

Extreme off-road motorcyclists will head to Colorado Springs this weekend to race over rock beds, massive logs, tractor tires and other obstacles.

The Broadmoor World Arena will host the first round of AMA Enduro Cross on Saturday. The touring competitive dirt bike show will feature a range of skill levels to be judged by speed, skills and endurance.

“Watching it on any level is very, very exciting,” said Katie Fowler, spokesperson for Enduro Cross. “When you bring all these obstacles into this small area with a bunch of these bikes out there, it literally becomes chaotic, and it is so entertaining.”

How does the competition work? At each round, riders must compete in qualifying races to reach the main event. The main event hosts the best riders, who will race for championship points. The overall title is awarded to the rider who has the most points at the end of the season.

“The last two years, the winner of the pro-series has come down to the final race on the final night. You just don’t get that kind of competition often in motorsports,” Fowler said. “With this event, we say every moto matters, because it really does. You just never know what’s going to happen that night.”

The show will transform the arena, filling the floor with dirt, logs, rocks, tires and sand. The competition is unique in that each round has a different track and layout. That also means racers cannot rehearse the same track ahead of time.

The family-friendly event will feature about a half-dozen skill levels, from novices to pros.

“If a novice can get through that race without crashing, they probably shouldn’t be a novice,” Fowler joked. “It’s just so exciting, literally, from that first gate drop until the checkered flag.”

But be prepared for a crash, which for some is the best part.

“There’s no race that goes by that someone does not crash,” Fowler said. “They don’t get super hurt, but it is fun to see these guys go down.”
