For Monty Python fans, “Spamalot” is a must see, Chris Armbrister said.

“It’s just a flesh wound.” “You’re a loony.” Those are some of the classic lines reiterated in the musical, said Armbrister, who is the artistic director of the Thin Air Theatre Company.

This weekend, the company will debut Monty Python’s “Spamalot” and performing it throughout the month of October at The Butte Theater. The musical — as its name implies — is inspired by the 1975 comedy film, “Monty Python and the Holy Grail.”

The musical, just like the film, follows the legendary tale of King Arthur’s quest to find the Holy Grail — with many comedic takes.

“It is literally two hours of nonstop laughter, everything from that over-the-top silly goofiness that that Monty Python is known for to poking fun at themselves,” Armbrister said.

For Armbrister, who is a self-described “Monty Python nerd,” it’s been a dream to direct the show.

“I was one of those guys that in college, you didn’t want to watch the movie with, because I would say the line right before it came out, I would quote along with the movie,” Armbrister joked. “For me, it’s been a joy.”

He’s wanted to take it on for a while now, especially fitting for the Butte Theater’s melodramatic taste.

“It’s known for melodrama, which is a larger than life style of drama,” he said. “For this show, you can think of it exactly like that. It’s a larger than life, over-the-top musical. So for me, I think it’s a perfect fit.”

Most importantly, the show is about having fun for the cast and audience.

“I hope they leave with a smile on their face and laughter in their heart. That sounds cliche and corny, but in these days and times, it’s what we need,” Armbrister said.

“One of the theme songs of the show is ‘Always Look on the Bright Side of Life,’ that’s our encore for the curtain call at the end. And we hope to leave with them singing and thinking about that.”
