The Walmart store on East Platte Avenue near Chelton Road was closed Friday afternoon because of a bomb threat.

The Colorado Springs Police Department confirmed that the store received an anonymous call about a bomb in the store around 12:20 p.m. Friday. Police initially evacuated the store, but declared the store clear of explosives.

The store reopened at 2:25 p.m. according to police.

Police spokeswoman Caitlin Ford said the store was evacuated out of an abundance of caution while the department’s bomb squad swept the store, particularly the bakery, where the threat stated the bomb to be located.

Investigators are continuing to investigate the origin of the call, according to the department’s crime blotter.
