A fire near County Line Road on El Paso County’s northern edge with Elbert County briefly shut down area roads and even triggered a brief pre-evacuation warning Thursday.

According to fire officials, the now-controlled fire involved an outbuilding and some hay bales.

Falcon Fire and the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office initially received reports of an explosion in the area of East County Line Road and Meridian Road, shortly after noon. The departments report that the outbuilding was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived. The fire then spread to nearby hay bales.

It is believed fuel stored in the outbuilding caused the initial explosion.

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office reports that the fire was under control by 2:20 p.m., and that all pre-evacuation notices have been lifted, though smoke might still be visible in the area.
