A Colorado Springs man was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly sexually assaulting an infant and possessing thousands of pieces of child pornography, an arrest affidavit obtained by The Gazette detailed.

Aaron Mocalkins, 30, faces over 20 charges including sexual exploitation of a child, sexual assault of a child, cruelty to animals and more after a police investigation found that Mocalkins was in possession of thousands of pieces of child pornography.

According to an arrest affidavit, Aurora police became aware of Mocalkins after the messaging application Kik informed Aurora police that an account with an IP address residing in Aurora contained possible child pornography. The address connected to the Kik account was the residence of Mocalkins’ boyfriend, according to the arrest affidavit.

Aurora police in March 2023 executed a search warrant on Mocalkins’ boyfriend’s address and seized over 25 electronic devices. The affidavit states that six of the items recovered at the address contained child pornography, and all of the devices “appear to only be used by Aaron (Mocalkins).”

Aurora police note within the affidavit that one external hard drive contained 5,151 images and videos depicting child pornography. The affidavit goes into detail regarding some of the contents of the horrific videos discovered on Mocalkins’ devices, with “numerous images and videos that were involving infants or toddlers.”

Aurora police also discovered evidence that Mocalkins used an online chat website to convince minors to show him their genitals, with screenshots of an interaction with one victim who was only 11 years old, according to the affidavit.

Police became concerned that Mocalkins himself was not just watching child pornography, but was sexually assaulting children himself. Of note was this message which police say was recovered from his phone:

“Don’t be afraid to rape. It’s a mistake to avoid nonconsensual child sex. No matter what kind of sex you have with kids, you’ll always be judged as a rapist. So don’t hold back.”

The rest of the message encouraged the use of threats and torture “to stop kids talking.”

The affidavit does not make it clear if the message recovered on Mocalkins’ phone was sent or received by him.

After further investigation from Aurora police at least three videos were discovered where Mocalkins exposes himself and touches his genitals on an infant at his boyfriend’s home, according to the arrest affidavit.

Mocalkins’ boyfriend was able to identify the infant in the video as the child of someone they knew.

Police also recovered three videos of Mocalkins having sex with a dog, according to the arrest affidavit.

Court records show that an affidavit was filed for Mocalkins’ arrest on Sept. 11, and he was taken into custody in El Paso County on Tuesday, Sept. 24.

A LinkedIn belonging to a man with the same name and similar age states that Mocalkins worked at the front desk of The Cliff House at Pikes Peak in Manitou Springs, and previously as a lobby attendant at The Broadmoor.

Court records show that Mocalkins is currently in custody on a $100,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in Colorado’s 18th Judicial District Court in Arapahoe County on Oct. 17 for his preliminary hearing.
