PPLD’s busiest branch to close for 2 weeks

Pikes Peak Library District’s busiest branch will be closed for parking lot repairs effective Monday, district officials said.

Renovations on the East Library’s parking area and access road are expected to be complete by the end of September.

Library officials initially planned to complete the project in phases, allowing limited access to the North Union Boulevard location.

“Now that construction has started, it has brought to light overwhelming parking constraints and safety concerns,” PPLD said in a statement. “To ensure everyone’s safety and allow the work to be completed without issues, the Library will be closed for the duration of the project.”

The library system is extending the expiration dates on materials that were on the Holds shelf at closing on Saturday. Once the East branch reopens, patrons will have seven days to pick up their holds.

Materials that are due during the closure time will be extended until the library reopens, officials said.

The book drop will be closed during the renovation process, and East Library programs are canceled.
