A suspected one-person shooting rampage resulted in one known injury early Sunday when a bullet penetrated the wall of a Colorado Springs apartment and struck a sleeping person, according to law enforcement officials.

Rupesh Jain, who was arrested in connection with the shooting, is suspected of firing shots into an apartment building and at least two businesses, police said.

Officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 11300 block of Nahcolite Point, near Interquest and Voyager parkways on the northern end of the city. When they arrived, they determined that several shots had been fired from an unoccupied apartment next to the one where the sleeping person was hit. The victim’s injuries were not life-threatening, officials said.

While looking for the tenant of the apartment, officers heard gunfire nearby. They later learned that the suspect had driven to the KeyBank at 27 Spectrum Loop and fired shots into the business.

As officers tried to find the source of the gunshots they’d heard, they were dispatched to another incident at the Village Inn at 7934 Duryea Drive, where the suspect had reportedly fired several times into the restaurant in an attempt to break in.

Not long after that, more gunshots were reported at another KeyBank at 3506 Hartsel Road, police said.

The suspect, later identified as Jain, then returned to the apartment building where he was arrested by waiting officers.
