As Eagle Scout projects continue to benefit the communities of the Tri-Lakes region, one of the latest has helped beautify Trinity Community Park.

Local Boy Scout Matthew Grundel completed his Eagle Scout project of landscaping the entrance to Trinity Community Park in Monument as well as the loop drop off-area. Assisted by many of his fellow scouts, Grundel added native grasses and wildflowers to the landscaping which adds beauty to the park and requires minimal maintenance.

Grundel’s project is the third at Trinity Community Park with more to come, Park executive director Tamara Schwarz said.

“It takes the entire community to make a difference and we are doing it together,” Schwarz said.

On the back of Grundel and company’s labor, TCP was able to save over $10,000 in landscaping costs. The Eagle Scout had to fundraise over $1,600 for supplies, plus organize volunteers, research, order, deliveries and much more to perform and complete the project.

“It helps Matthew earn his Eagle Scout Project badge doing something to better the community,” Schwarz said. “But it also helped Trinity save that money which can be used for other equipment at the park.”

Building the park where the entire community has access has taken a lot of community financial and physical support. During the second phase of TCP, over 70 volunteers from the community came to help.

Schwarz said Scout projects have put in hundreds of service hours as well as Trinity Lutheran Church members.

“It’s a community coming together to make a difference in lives,” she said. “It takes everyone to make this a reality.”
