Victim identified in early August pedestrian-vehicle crash in Colorado Springs
The El Paso County Coroner’s Coroner’s Office has identified the pedestrian killed in a fatal Aug. 5 crash in Colorado Springs.
According to the Colorado Springs Police Department, on Aug. 5 at 6:39 p.m., officers received reports of a vehicle crash involving a pedestrian near the intersection of South Nevada Avenue and Elmo Avenue.
Investigation efforts conducted by the department’s Major Crash Team say the pedestrian was crossing South Nevada Avenue at the East Elmo Avenue crosswalk when he was struck by a vehicle heading west.
That pedestrian has been identified by the El Paso County Coroner’s Office as 55-year-old Charles Stone.
Despite medical intervention at the scene Stone later died from his injuries at a nearby hospital, police said.
Investigators report that the driver of the vehicle remained at the scene.
Neither speed nor impairment are thought to be factors in the crash.
Stone’s death marks the 37th traffic fatality in Colorado Springs in 2024. At the same time last year, there had been 29 traffic fatalities.
