Raquel Pennington hopes to remain on a heater when she defends her championship title in seven weeks.

Dana White, UFC CEO, announced Friday on X, the app formerly known as Twitter, the card for UFC 307 and said Pennington will defend her women’s bantamweight title against Julianna Peña on Oct. 5 in Salt Lake City.

The fight will serve as the co-main event and marks Pennington’s first time defending the championship since she won it in January.

Pennington, 35, is a Colorado Springs native and graduate of Harrison High School.

“Pennington is a true OG of the division and has the most significant strikes in bantamweight history,” White said. “(She has the) second most control time, second most wins and has the longest active winning streak with six.”

Since dropping 3 of her 4 bouts from 2018-2020, including a title fight to Amanda Nunes in 2018, Pennington has built a 6-fight winning streak with 4 of those victories coming via unanimous decision.

Previous bantamweight title holder Amanda Nunes retired in June 2023, that left the bantamweight title vacant.

Pennington (16-9), fought Mayra Bueno Silva at UFC 297 in January and won the title via unanimous decision at Scotia Bank in Toronto.

For Peña, she hopes to reclaim the bantamweight championship. Peña won the belt from Nunes in December 2021, but lost it in a rematch to Nunes on July 30, 2022, which was also the last time Peña competed.
