Man suspected of firing shotgun, threatening neighbors arrested after standoff with Colorado Springs police

Armed robbery suspect found hiding in car in Colorado Springs, police say

A man accused of firing a shotgun into the air and threatening to shoot neighbors was arrested early Sunday after a standoff with Colorado Springs police, law enforcement officials said.

Michael Overbay, 25, could face several felony and misdemeanor charges, including menacing, illegally discharging a firearm and violation of a protection order, police said.

Just before 3 a.m. on Sunday, Overbay allegedly left his home in the 3500 block of Lenoso Terrace carrying a shotgun, walked to a nearby parking lot and threatened to shoot the next person he saw before firing his weapon twice in the air and returning to his residence, according to police.

When officers tried to contact Overbay several times and got no response, they called in a tactical team, a K-9 unit and explosives specialists. At one point, the suspect could be seen looking over the back fence of his town home. Police sealed off the area while patrol officers obtained search and arrest warrants, officials said.

Before the search warrant was executed, tactical officers successfully contacted Overbay and he surrendered peacefully. A long gun and an undisclosed amount of ammunition was found inside the home.
