Portions of major roads in Colorado Springs closed following fatal crash
Portions of North Academy Boulevard and Pikes Peak Avenue are closed Thursday morning following a deadly crash that claimed the life of one, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department.
Police said the fatal crash was first reported in the area at 4:30 a.m. Law enforcement on the scene discovered the crash involved a motor vehicle and a pedestrian.
Due to their sustained injuries, the pedestrian was pronounced dead on the scene.
The department’s Major Crash Team has assumed the lead in the investigation. At this time, alcohol nor speed appear to be factors in the crash, officials said.
According to the department, westbound lanes of Pikes Peak Avenue and a portion of southbound North Academy Boulevard from Pikes Peak to Bijou Street were closed for several hours Thursday morning.
Department spokesperson Ira Cronin said the roads reopened at approximately 7:15 a.m.
