Colorado Springs weather: Moderate smoke and haze Thursday
Chancey Bush/ The Gazette
Wildfires north of Colorado Springs have brought moderate levels of smoke and haze to the Pikes Peak region Thursday alongside hot temps in the low 90s and a possibility of afternoon storms.
“Due to elevated concentrations of ozone, the air quality index in the Pikes Peak Region today will be considered Moderate. There’s also the potential for wildfire smoke to increase towards the afternoon and evening hours from the four fires burning to our north. If you are sensitive to the smoke, it’s best to limit your time outdoors today,” meteorologist Alan Rose with Gazette news partner KOAA said.
“With an uptick in moisture, there’s also the potential for an isolated shower or two late this afternoon and evening in the Pikes Peak region.”
There’s a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms in the forecast, mainly after 5 p.m. Expect mostly sunny skies and a high of 92 degrees.
According to Rose, temps are expected to slightly cool Friday into the 80s with chances for afternoon thunderstorms increasing into Friday afternoon.
