The Colorado Springs Fire Department responded to a structure fire in southeast Colorado Springs Wednesday afternoon where several pets were affected by the smoke.

The fire was at 1418 Yosemite Drive and the department was able to extinguish the flames quickly, within four minutes of arrival.

Six dogs are being treated for smoke inhalation, with four of them being in poor shape upon the crews arrival. The fire department reported that all four regained consciousness and are “doing much better” after medical attention was received. Three of the pups were transported to animal urgent care via Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region. One kitten died in the fire.

The department has not declared what caused the fire as of Wednesday evening.
