Colorado State Patrol investigates fatal crash on U.S. 50 near Rocky Ford; detours in place

The Colorado State Patrol is investigating a crash at U.S. 50 near mile post 370, just east of Rocky Ford. Eastbound 50 is closed with a detour in place.

According to State Patrol, the crash involved a passenger vehicle with one occupant and a Colorado Division of Transportation dump truck. According to a press release sent out Wednesday afternoon, the driver of the CDOT truck was taken to a local hospital, and their status is unknown. The driver of the passenger vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene.

Identities of those involved in the crash are not yet available. Identification of the dead motorist will be released by the Otero County coroner after next of kin is notified.

No estimated time for reopening the road has been released. Eastbound traffic will detour at mile post 370 to Otero County Road 21 and return to the highway after passing the crash scene.
